It's a decent axle in my mind in stock from the 8.8, 9", d44, full size jeep amc 20 are all real similar in strength and if you are breaking one you will probably break another and should go bigger. Now they can be built to be stronger but if your putting lots of money into one you might as well get a 60 or 14 bolt unless you are trying to go super light weight or something like that. By the time you get everything ready to bolt in an 8.8 you are looking at about a grand. The "factory locker" is a limited slip and in my mind limited slips suck, get an open diff so you can put in a lunch box locker.
