To anyone who knows anything about CEC system for Jeep CJ7.

I drive an 85 151 cu 4 cyl.

I have been trying to diagnose my jeeps broken CEC system for a while now and seem to be at a dead end.

What I have done thus far:

Checked all feed-in / feed-out components individually to confirm they are operational, in each mode. (visually checked the sole-vac in warm up mode, unplugged and voltage tested coolant temp gauge in cruise mode, voltage tested M/C solenoid, closed throttle switch, oxygen sensor. etc. etc.) All of which passed.

Followed the FSM diagnosis schematic. I hit a dead end with the diagnosis when it said there was a short in the WOT / closed throttle switch wiring harness. I found nothing of the sort.

I do know there is no voltage being supplied by the MCU by testing the relay connections. The diagnosis schematic suggest the MCU is still operational.

What would cause the MCU to stop energizing its components? Is there something here I could be over looking? Any other tests I could try?

I don’t know anything about your system but, electrical is electrical and many of the controllers have similar properties.

I would first suggest unplugging the WOT and closed throttle switches and anything else that loom goes to and see if you can get the shorted error to clear. If this part of the loom has a connector into the main loom, unplug it there also. If you can clear the error, start plugging things back in until the error returns.

Generally, the controller doesn’t supply power to anything. This is done so that if a wire becomes shorted to ground, it doesn’t burn out the controller.

Inputs are often sensed through a circuit with a pull-up resistor internal to the controller. You need a high impedance meter to read the voltage.

Outputs are generally powered from a 12V source and the controller provides the ground.
