I own a 81 J10 with a 75 401.The 401 leaks oil real bad and i have changed every seal i can find.I am thinking of replacing the 401 with a chevy 350 what would i have to do to make the change?

Ill trade you straight across for a good running, well built chevy 350

but my conscience would bother me.

Keep the 401 or find a 360 ( easier to find same block)

just figure out for sure were the leak is and fix it

the auto in it will be a tf727 with a AMC bellhousing pattern, and if you swap to GM engine youll have to go total GM drivetrain, not an easy swap, and its not pleasing to the Jeep Gods

I have a good 350 already. About the oil leak i had the rear main seal changed about a month ago then the oil pump went out when i rebuilt the oil pump and started the truck the rear seal started to leak, could the seal have been damaged by low oil pressure? I guess i will change the seal one more time.Any input would be helpful.

We have found that the oil filler cap can get worn out and actually have oil blow back out around the seal inside the cap, I've also had a dipstick seal (where it goes into the tube) dry out from the heat and blow back up the oil tube. A bad pcv valve can cause enough pressure in the engine for the oil to find a way out. Other than that it seems like trouble shooting time and degreaser.
