1986 van w/ 300 I6 - where\'s the spout connector?

My buddy just bought a 1986 Club Wagon van with the 300 cid inline six. We've rebuilt the carb, new plugs, cap & rotor and it runs so much better - it doesn't belch black smoke any longer.
Now the next step is to check and set the timing.
Manual says disconnect the "spout connector" and check timing. Well that would be great if they showed a picture of the little fella! So the question of the day is where in the

is the spout connector located and what does it look like.

put the hose off the vacuum advance and plug it maybe that what your book is referring to

Its JUST a 2 prong electrical plug connector in the harness coming out the bottom of the distributor (about 4" away on a 5.0, not sure on the 4.9l but should be similiar), remove the male part from the connector before checking base timing. SPOUT = spark output signal connector and is used on ford TFI/1V ignition systems.

Thanks for the tip. The only thing off this distributor that looks like it could be it is a barrel shaped connector with one wire in and one wire out. We'll have to breal out the timing light and see if it changes anything.

From what i see in my haynes, yes it is barrel shaped. Mine however is not but then again (ford)... gotta change completely everything every year, every engine, and just confuse the *bleep* out of us

Well that 2 wire connector on the disty must be the spout since the timing does change when you take it out of the loop.
Ford takes the prize for the smallest timing index mark on the crank pulley. You need a microscope to see the tiny line! Anyway we got it set and now it's on to cure the numerous oil leaks around the ole motor.
