Clutch issues... (LTA50)

We had my son's 50 in the sand at Oregon Dunes last year...and it was *almost* useless!!! It would only take off on its own if the sand was perfectly flat. (no incline) Once it was going...it seemed to be fine...but if there was any incline at all...the clutch would just slip! Is this normal for this bike? The exh. restrictor is off...but thats about it!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Clutch issues... (LTA50)

Are you sure the clutch was slipping? If so, the motor would be revving to the moon and the quad wouldn't be moving much. Most likely you've found that the complete lack of power keeps it from moving when almost any incline is present.

The next step is to remove the intake restrictor, pull the stacked pilot jet, and move to a cooler spark plug. Also, this bike tends to carbon up very easily in stock form.

Here are a couple posts that will also give you some performance ideas:

Also do a search on both those sites.
