Heater controls re-do

Just thought I'd post up on my latest little project. After looking at my heater control panel I'd noticed that they had yellowed out quite a bit over time. So, after a little bit of razor blade wielding and graphic design I made up a new template.

I printed it on overhead transparency sheets and spray-painted the back with a light coat of Krylon Fusion white paint. Light shines through the white and blend indicator, just like stock.

Case in point, if anyone wants to use this you're more than welcome. Also, if you want to do something a little different from stock, it shouldn't be too difficult to work up now that I have the template in place. Let me know if you have something in mind!

The actual bezel piece? Yeah, I just cleaned the old adhesive off and glued the new label on.

Nice! Can we see a pic of it installed? So we can compare and feel shame in our own worn out OEM's? Hehehe

For sure! For some reason the image resized when I converted it to jpg, so I went and made a new one. My printer crapped out so I can't try the new template yet but it should be about perfect. I'll upload it when I've confirmed it actually works.

Ok, overhead transparency is too thin, it has small warps when you glue it onto the bezel and is too glossy. I'm trying a thicker clear plastic but it won't go through the printer so I'm actually having to stencil it out. Possibly a bigger PITA than it's worth.....

re: warping

I haven't even started looking at how to replace my broken bezel. was thinking plexiglass. As for the warping, what about a sandwich with plexi-bread and transparancy-meat (or jelly for the PETA crowd)

I've tried looking for plexi, but I can't find any that thin. The binder cover stuff is perfect, it's just a matter of stenciling out the control indicators. I've been busy this past week so I've not had a chance to work on it. With any luck I'll be able to get it done this weekend.
