Your jeep\'s gas mileage

Durring the summer my 90 4.2, gets about 12-15 mpg. Durring the winter it will get 7-10 mpg. Do these figures sound right? Our TJ gets 17 all year round.

Headed for Gunnison, soon....

77' CJ7, stock 258 with a 1-bbl carb, 4.56's with 33x12.50's. 15-16 highway, 11-13 around town (depends heavily on skinny pedal use). Never goes faster than 65 on the highway.

Re: Your jeep\'s gas mileage

the only time I got good gas mileage was one day years ago when me and another jeep had a down hill coasting race it was an old train grade they turned into a logging road all down hill for five miles...top speed maybe thirty...but the fun part was it was bump to pass

Re: Your jeep\'s gas mileage

'76 CJ5, 360, 4.10 axles, 32" tires, and a carbeurator that insists on running a touch rich no matter how many times I adjust or rebuild it. I guesstimate roughly 7mpg if street-driven, though I've yet to go through a full tank without at least a few hours spent at low range.

Re: Your jeep\'s gas mileage

I drove mine on a 4 hour road trip to Maine last summer and got an honest 20mpg at 60 mph. Dropped to about 15 when I tried to do 65 on the way back!
This is with a 84 CJ-7 with 87k original miles, Borla cat-back, Weber 38, GM HEI, WC T-5,4.27 gears and 33x9.5 BFGAT's.

Re: Your jeep\'s gas mileage

Better call Ripley's /wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif The 304 gets around 15-20 mpg on the highway at 65-70. Running 33's, 4.27, T-18. All I did was remove all the emissions junk, bore it to .30 over and put on msd ignition. Best I ever got was coming back from Moab, 27 mpg /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif Thats no BS either.

Re: Your jeep\'s gas mileage

Mine? It came to 16.4 or something like that, combination city and a bit of highway. I'm in stop and go traffic a lot, and I'm not afraid of my go pedal. If I took it easy all the time, and timed my driving so I'm not in traffic, I'm sure it'd be better. Do you have the 4 cylinder? I've heard to 4 cylinders get worse because the gas pedal is used a bit more? just a thought.

'74 CJ5 304--no idea, speedometer not working. Real bad this fall, the accelerator pump was puking fuel until I rebuilt it.
