Got me swinging from the lamp post

I could not find a similar item listed here:

Heck ..it looks like a mini muffler ...

Why not just unscrew it and look inside??? I'd take a look at mine ..but I can't seem to find the garage keys at the moment. I don't recall such a protrusion on mine.

 

I thought about unscrewing it, but I put a socket on it and it wouldn't budge. it's difficult to tell, but it looks like it is molded into the casing (except for maybe the nut looking piece at the end. I was afraid I may damage it if I tried too hard to unthread it.

 

Looks like I'm not the only one confused about this part. On the page below, it states then when the "bolt" was removed it let pressure out of his tank, so that reinforces my original guess of a pressure relief valve.

That's the same valve that the GM Frigidair R-4's have on the tail end. You can just leave it alone; it'll be no problem.

It is just treaded in and may be unscrewed but there is no need to remove it. It is a pressure releaf valve but is set very high your air tank will blow up first. you will want to leave it in place or plug the hole. In either case install a blow off valve else where in the system set for the lowest max presure in your system usally the air tank.
