York compressor - part identification

Can't figure out what a part on the York compressor I am using to build my OBA system is.
If anyone familiar with them could take a look at the picture below and tell me what it is, I'd appreciate it. I'm guessing a pressure relief valve, but it's just a guess.

Heck ..it looks like a mini muffler ...

Why not just unscrew it and look inside??? I'd take a look at mine ..but I can't seem to find the garage keys at the moment. I don't recall such a protrusion on mine.

It is just treaded in and may be unscrewed but there is no need to remove it. It is a pressure releaf valve but is set very high your air tank will blow up first. you will want to leave it in place or plug the hole. In either case install a blow off valve else where in the system set for the lowest max presure in your system usally the air tank.
