YJ tub on CJ7 frame (moving fuel filler to the drivers side)

Other than the mounts how much trouble am I looking at for putting a YJ glass tub on a CJ7 frame? Tthe reason I want to switch is mainly for the fuel filler on the drivers side and to use wide YJ flares on the front/rear. Would it be easier for me to just modify a CJ7 glass tub for the flares and fuel filler? Is this possible? I just like the look of the gas filler on the drivers side. Would I need to use the CJ gas tank or a YJ gas tank? I was going to get a new poly gas tank regardless. Anyone done this? Thanks

i am in the process of doing the swap. Not there Yet, but i thought about it. i believe You can reverse your gas tank so the filler will be on the opposite side but i am not positive as it is that easy. On the yj tubs if u did not notice the fuel filler is hidden under neath the lisence plate on the Yjs
good luck and keep us updated. I will let you know how i make out i am doing it in the next month

I guess I did get it wrong. I was confussing the YJ and the TJ. I meant the fuel filler on the TJ, that's on the drivers rear. Would it be difficult to just mount the filler there (with a stock TJ one) and run my lines to my tank. I will be doing this on a new glass tub. Would I be better off with a CJ gas tank or a YJ gas tank? Would I be crazy to do this? I just like the looks of it. Thanks

ok.. let me get this straight.. where do you want the filler? cause you are not making sense. if you are getting a glass tub, get one with out the hole in it.. and put it where ever you want. if you move your tank, you have to think about the fuel lines to the engine.. keep away from the exhaust. not sure if you can reverse a cj one or not.. you would have to do the whole skidplate thing, since its not square. then you would have to redrill the holes, and i think the front mounting point is higher than the rear.. so i dont think you could do this. i am just going to cut a hole in the passenger side instead of having it on the rear. i dont see a difference in that and the drivers side. and you could keep the cj tank.. just get new lines.. much easier.

for starters, if u would like the door how the tjs are thats not a big deal. I belive you can just get an aftermarket ring from one of the catologs. I am not sure if it matters on what tank you use as you van just rotate the tank 180 degrees and the whole for gas will be on the drivers side.
I you are buying aa glass tub i think you can buy either tub i would not see why not just go with the cj over the yj? also either way you will be doing some cutting cause to my knowledge they do not sell a tj glass body. Have you ever seen a tj with a rotted body me neither!

mine is on the passengers side just like a tj and i have a yj tub that was mounted to a cj frame, but now i am putting it on my tj frame.. come see it i am in Havelock and i'm taking it to uwharrie april 15

it's sort of still a cj thingy....
Stock TJ filler surround = $8 from the dealer, bolt it to your existing filler neck. Spin the tank around or go with a YJ tank...you make the call...I didn't like the location of the filler hoses in relation to the body so I nixed spinning the tank.
