A YJ hardtop will not fit on a TJ. The TJ's winshield is angled back further, and there are a few other subtle differences. However 87-95 Jeeps are YJs, and 97 and up are TJs. So yes, an 88 Wrangler hard-top will fit on a 90 Wrangler.

I don't know.....but I'm curious why anyone would "cut" a TJ top. Heck you just pull the velcro back and unzip the thing.......and why would you cut it any place that's totally damaging. If I was going to do that (and no....I'd never do that) I'd cut any one of the three windows ......probably one of the side windows so I could unlock the door....which are all replaceable relatively cheaply.

Tell your friend to NEVER lock a soft topped vehicle.

Locking the doors on a soft top vehicle is not a good idea. A window costs $100 to replace whether they steal the jeep or not. A YJ hard top will not bolt onto a TJ. You could rig it up on the TJ but the doors probably won't close and it won't be very safe. Good luck and sorry for the misfortune.

I used to live in an apartment complex. My neighbor had a softtop YJ. One night some schmuck dicided he liked my stereo better and broke the side window in my truck and BENT the door frame to get into the jeep. The funny thing is, the jeep wasnt locked. Morons.
