Yamaha IT-175\'s

I looked at the Yamaha page, and there aren't any IT's! what's with that? Anybody out there remember these two-stroke screamers?

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

camo,

Yes I do remember the I.T. 175. The 1977 Yamaha I.T. 175 was my first real racing bike. The thing was great (in those days),
not as good as the Pentons, etc. but it was a great bike. I bought it new in March of 1977, and raced my first enduro (first race
of any kind) in May of 1977. And it was a National Enduro to boot. In 1980 I bought a new I.T. 175, it wasn't bad either. But the I.T.
I liked the best was the 1983 I.T. 250 that I bought new in the spring of that year. When I bought this one my results really started to
improve. I actually started to win trouphies. I traded the 83 for a new 1985 I.T. 200, I don't know if it was the smaller engine or what,
but I didn't like this bike as well as the others. To this day I wish I would have kept the 83 around, just for fun, that one will always
have a spot in my heart. Currently I race/ride a 1996 Suzuki 250 RMX (bought it new in spring of 97), I like this one a lot, it is just
what I was looking for, lights and odometer, for enduros, and the bike is pretty simple to work on. The price was right, and parts are
there when I need them. I wish Yamaha still made the I.T. (like a RMX) I still think they could sell a lot of them.

of 1977.

Some people you have to pay them to be good, but I'm good for nothing.

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

The first two stroke bike I had ever ridden was the 1978 IT-175, and, when the mixture was right, was good for over 70mph! The only problem I had was with the kickstart lever. The knuckle piece that bolted the lever to the engine was very weak, and I broke two of them doing a normal start up procedure!
My dad tried welding the alloy (almost impossible) but it was still weak! I got used to bump starting the bike after theat!

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

Hey camo, I had an IT175, my first full-size bike. It was great, I learned alot of my riding skills on that bike. Yea that bike had a great gear spread, 1st was a crawler, I got up to 80mph in 6th, damn that thing was fast!!!!!!! Like a current mx 125 but with more grunt and torque. I had a problem with the kickstarter too, it kept flopping out around corners, and when I would go put my leg back on the peg, it jabbed me, not good. They are great bikes, they should still make them, they would be great, rival the KDX series

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

So people have fond memories or these bikes huh? Well I have an 86 IT200. It is a great first bike. It was my first bike and my first ride was a 60 mile enduro. I rode about 40 of it and had a great time. I was about 165 lbs. back in 1989, but now I'm closer to 190 and it is time for stiffer springs and a bigger motor. I'm glad to hear others had a positive experience with the old blue:) Does anyone want mine?

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

I just got an '82 Yamaha IT175J, yes with the baby sky blue fenders, really faded to a even lighter blue, Bike runs great, minus a few little things(Lack of experiance mostly). You said correct mixture, what mixture of fuel/oil should I run in this bike, as it sits oil sprays out the exhaust pipe, and blows out the pipe to engine seal, dripping oil all over the place????

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

I had a friend that I rode with in HS that had a 75 and 76 I might be thinking of the wrong bike.. but it was a dual sport..it was electric blue oil injected..it could never keep up with any of us in the dirt because it had no suspension..IS that the one??

Just a thought...

Re: Yamaha IT-175\'s

Had to have been a DT, I went riding for the first time this weekend. This IT 175J is Very Fast, I didn't go past Third Gear, I raced a 96 YZ125, was no competition, smoked a 250 quad. I love this BIKE, YAHOOOO
