I have heard people talking about different transfer case options for xj's(select trac, command trac, ect.). what are they, which systems came on what year, and which should I be looking for iin an xj? thanks again, Ben

I would also like to know this. Great question. I have heard that the SelecTrac is the best, but I am not sure. I would reaaly like to find a model guide that shows which jeeps had what. Maybe someone has a link?

You can't go wrong with the 231 comand trac! gives you 2w 4w and 4w lo!The 242 select track gives you 2w 4w full time (Has an inter axle diff) and partime same as the 231 (no interaxle diff) and 4 low both good choices!
STAY AWAY FROM full time four wheel 249 No selection 4w drive for ever till it screws up!IT may leave ya hanging in a locked up mode with no way out! BEEN there Done that!]
Don't know the years but 91 on is a safe bet.and the ho engine is offered from then on as well.

just my opinion.
