I was getting my hair cut the other day and saw an add on TV for what looked like a pretty good product. It was a wire stripper, looked a little like a thick pair of pliers, put the wire in (whatever guage) and sqeeze the handles together and it automatically pulled the insulation off the wire. Would even do a first layer of insulation then a second layer.

Does anyone know what this is, or even know what I am talking about?

TIA

I saw that same ad. I think it is one of those Sears/Craftsman/Bob Vila tools. It was pretty sweet looking and appeared to do a great job. Something like this...although I don't think this is the exact model especially since the website is in the UK.

Wire Stripper

Been using the same thing for years doing electrical work.....they work pretty good depending on the insulation type, and if you have a lot of wires to strip at once. Generally I prefer the usual strippers or dikes.

I had one of these. The CONCEPT is great, but the execution and quality is absolute crap. If they made it better, it would be perfect.

I now use one I got at Lowes in the electrical supply section. It strips sideways instead of frontways with that stripper. THis one I have works great even on thick crosslink wire.

I have used one for the last 45 years. I started using it on the wires that we had to install in US Navy aircraft.

I strip all important wires, that would be the ones for the Jeep, using the stripper.

Use them all the time. Work just fine almost everytime, just remember not to depend on them if you have very little loose wire left you have to strip. I even like the cheapo chinese-made ones (Red plastic) that cost < $3.99 but you go through them faster.
