window cranks

looked in the chiltons to see hiow to remove the window crank on my 87 xj but i did give me much info. how do i get this thing off?

what kind of tool is it? is it somthigni might have around the house or is there somthing else i could use to get it off. i just need to kow how it is held on there. is it a clip or what? i really don;t want to go and buy a special tool jsut to get the thing off.

well, if it's like most other vehicles,its a open-ended circular clip that fits into indentations on the crank post...the tool is kind of a notched-out piece of metal that slides under the handle base and pushes the clip off...you could use something similar( putty knife,i.e.) ....but what pushes the clip off is just a bit of a flange at the end of the tool...but I've used both...just be careful of the panel,you don't wanna tear it....

Slide a washcloth under the trim, work it back and forth, and the clip will snap loose. No other tools needed.
If you want to convert to electric, let me know. I want to convert to manual.

On my '88 2-door manual opened windows I just pulled the crank off the splined axel without any tools. There's no C-clip or whatever, just a plastic handel to rotate the axel. It can't be any easier. Or am I misunderstanding and are you talking about something else?
