What kind of setup are you looking for? I just hook it into the drum, put the other end on an anchor up a hill, and winch the Jeep up until the drum is full. Steering back and forth to keep the lays tight against each other, of course.
I would say that the first thing you should do now that you have a new winch is go out and get a winch kit, or put one together yourself. One of the biggest keys to safety is to have the correct equipment. If you have the right equipment then the chances of getting hurt, or damaging your new winch far reduce. www.4wd.com sells a very complete winch kit. And try a search here for winch safety. I can recall reading a few very informative posts here.
Anyone got pictures or info on how to attach the wire to the drum?
Also.. as shown on the Pirate4x4 site..there are many ways to put an end on the line.
Is the 2 or 3 u-bolt looking clips a decent solution? or do I need to have a shop put on a compression fitting thing.
Also.
Whats everyone here's oppinon on hooks vs. shackles?
I always figured "hook" but the guy I bought the winch from just had a big shackle instead.. seems like a good idea.. I mean.. It's gotta be better for attaching the line to a tree-saver/sling/truck/ everything else.. right?
