Will 33\'s hit my front spring\'s?

I'm about ready to do install a 4" lift, and I want to mount 33 12.50's on my jeep. My question is will the tires clear the front springs with the wheels cranked? My wheels are American Racing, don't know model. Backspacing on the wheels is four inches. Had one guy tell me 33's wouldn't work, had another tire guy tell me maybe. I know many of you have this setup, any input would be appreciated.

Thankx,
Max

If your axles are widetrack I think they should clear. If they are narrow track you will have to adjust the steering stops of they will rub the springs.

My other car is a BULLDOZER

It really depends on the offset of your rims... I don't know what stock offset is on your model jeep, but 4" of backspacing should be fine. I just installed 8.5" rims with 3.75" of offset with 33's, and they rub LESS than my stock rims...

Max,
Your 82 CJ-7 should be a wide track and if so then you will have no trouble with the tires hitting your springs.

You shouldn't have any problems with a widetrack.
Thats what I have and my wheels are within 1/2" of the spindle. (about as far as you can get backspaced)

Hope this helps you.

I knew everything when I was 16......How come I'm so stupid now?

Re: Will 33\'s hit my front spring\'s?

Thankx for the responses. Question: I know my 82 should be a wide track, but where do you measure from to tell? Outside rotor to outside rotor? I know it should be 54.5 inches, but from where to where?

Hey Dirt dog that's a good lookin' little girl you got. My boy is almost two, and he loves "working" on the jeep with dad already. Mainly he just grabs a wrench and beats on the body. Hopefully he'll graduate to a different form of work by the time I get around to patchin' and paintin' ;-)
