Who\'s up for the Rubicon

We've set the date to Run the Rubicon. The plan is to do it a couple of days before the Ione BBQ. This trail is so crowded during the weekends, it's best to do it late in the year during the week.

Dates are September 23rd and 24th.

All you Northern Ca. jeepsters that missed Moab, here's your chance to do some wheelin. (and anyone else).

I will provide more information in a couple of weeks on hotels, camping and departure times. I will post the information on the Southwest's site.

To do this trial, I highly recommend, locker(s) and at least 33" tires.

How about a head count on who's going?

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

Did someone mention Rubicon......(insert big smile here)..... I'm there. If anyone here has not done the Rubicon and thought about it, don't miss it. Last time I did it was years ago and I remember it like yesterday. Its a total blast.
I just put new tires on my beast and its ready to rock!!

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

It may lead to a divorce, but a guys got to get his priorities right once in a while.

Count me in, with my family cage, SOA, 35's and Ox lockers front and rear. (I should have a write up soon with some pics.)

I hope to take her out for her maiden voyage by the end of the month. Hope being the key word.

Sure hope the alimony payments don't eat into the Jeep moneies too much.

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

So heres my new tires and rims.
I got 35 x 12.5 x 15 MTRs on 15 x 8 Rockcrawler rims.

they are much softer than the BAJA TA's that I had on and about $400.00 cheaper per tire!!
lots of sidewall lugs, hopfully they'll help me in the rocks.

I got different backspacing on the rims to give me a little more axle width. They allready stuck out and shot mud on my arms, so whats a little more?

Arrrghhh! You guys are killing me! I'm driving to Telluride for the Blues and Brews festival the weekend before. I'll definitely pull it off if I can, though.

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

I love the MTR's. They work even in sand pretty well - unusual for the deep tread. Mud's not so good though, they tend to load up fast!

Try something - make a little paint mark next to the stem.
I've been having lots of trouble with the 35x12.5 MTR's slipping on the rims.
Balance them nice, take it off road - even for a light wheeling and they slip. Slipped 2 yesterday and I never even was in 4 wheel drive!
On the Rubi they are on American Eagle's - chromed aluminum, in combination with the super thick bead on the tires they sure don't stay put. But on the tracker they are on chromed steel rims - no slipping!

I now have a set of rock crawler rims too - I scratched them up around the bead surface, then put Muriatic acid on the new metal. Been watering them several times a day, trying to get a nice coating of rust on the mounting surface before I mount them so they won't slip.

The obvious choice if that doesn't work is screws - don't like that - if you rub a rock the wrong way and pop the bead off, it destroys the tire.

We'll be at the BBQ -- but probably not at the Rubicon - Deb has to work.

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

Well, I've been working on my tow rig (1970 F-250)
Got it running last week and will pick it up from the muffler shop this afternoon.
If it runs well and doesn't need any more work, I will be starting on my axles this week.
I shouldn't need to spend much time on the axles but you always seem to find stuff once you start pulling them apart.
Will tell Brenda of my goal date and maybe she will stall all of her projects for me!
Ken

Also,
Nice looking wheels and tires Tom.
I will be going rock crawlers also with 35s but have a set of used BFGs that I will run until I can buy new. I hate BFGs but couldn't beat the price.

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

Rich, I'll try the marking thing, let you know.
Come on, there's got to be some more Jeepsters that want the 'Con'
It's by far the best wheeling area, other than Moab.

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

I want to go...
My wife's job here in Dallas is over and she's taken a new long term assignment, this time in Providence RI. I'll be driving her Miata up there starting Friday. We should have our trips home for the coming months scheduled by the end of this month. Hopefully I'll be able to commit to the run in a couple of weeks...

Re: Who\'s up for the Rubicon

Just wanted to bring this back to the top. Come on you guys from Northern Ca. and Nevada. This is your chance to go wheelin on one of the best trails in the country.
I think you all know who I'm talking about--Harry, Andy, Ron, Al, Paul we will have you home before the wedding, just to name a few.
How many time have you heard the words "that all you ever do is work on that Jeep" here's your chance to prove her wrong.

Sounds like a Great event but I'm better off without the divorce but would sure love to get a new locker and new tires? Take lots of pic's and rub our nose in it when you'all get back.
Hey, maybe I can get my buddy to bring his Toyota ...... nah, there would be just too much heckling!
