I think it is the coolant when overheating...
You should clean all of this and check if everything is straigt...

A buddy of mine says it could be a burnt valve but they still open and close fine. Is this true?

 

You're two center cylinders are blowing oil , mostly looks like the rings , could be the valve guides or seals . Check the guide seals under the springs to see if they are cracked or blown off . The two end cylinders are semi-burnt , it's either running lean on those two or you really got it hot . Is the head warped ? It should be , judging by the way it looks . I'd bet the ends are raised at least .004" each or worse . Once you fix the head , I'd go looking for the reason it's showing lean on the end cylinders , and the oil problem in the center . Could be nothing more than a plugged pcv blowing the valve guide seals off from crankcase pressure .

Oh great.. More problems.

 

The white deposit looks like it's a gasoline addative, notice it scapes off. Shell gas tends to do that quite a bit but others do too.
If it's not burned and seals fine I'd use it.

The center ones are oily, the white deposit doesn't stick to it as easy.

As mentioned, check if the oily is from the PCV system.

 

Could the valves and valve seals (preventative maintenence) be replaced and the head checked for straightness and call it quits?

 

With the amount of money I've spent on this thing I'm thinking of selling it and calling it a day.. What a PITA.

 

wasnt this the motor that was wired in the wrong firing order cw or ccw and wasnt firing on the right cylenders would this be why the difference in valve colors

 

Yes, the firing order was bad as per the "haynes" book. The white stuff scrapes off and the lip of the valves look ok. I'm going to try to put some block seal in it and put it back together and call it a day.
