Hey Guys,

I am going to ordered one of those Robertshaw Thermostats from 4WHD and was wondering which temp i should order?? The options are 160, 180, and 195. My rig has a 258", a Weber 32/36, and a T-18 if that matters. It will also be used almost ALL in the summer and will need to run cool. I dont know what temp i have in there now.

Thanks for any advice

Be sure it has a hole drilled in it....about 3/32" would be fine....in the flat area....helps the engine burp out the air better. You know, Mangler, I was inspecting our 304 recently, and it looks to me like the by-pass hose is too generous to enable the engine to cool well. I'm inserting a washer as a restrictor./wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

I'd definately go with one of the 2 hotter ones. My 258, temp guage hardly came up with a 180. I put in a 195 and the guage is right near the middle and the heater puts out a whole lot better. I think stock Jeep radiators have a tendency to over-cool.

BTW, You have a great web page. Have you cleaned up that engine compartment yet? Putting in the GM HEI allowed me to get rid of miles of wires and hoses. Here's a shot of my engine. It doesn't show the driver's side very well.

I live out in Northborough, MA. Just east of worcester. And sure I would love to do some wheeling!
Only problem is I was roaming around in the CJ today and started smelling some electrical type smoke. Turned out to be the ground to the heater motor was melting the insulation off the wire. Since I was going to re-do the dashboard anyway I pulled the whole thing off this afternoon and the wiring behind there is a mess. So the CJ is out of order until I can get the dash finished and a good portion of it re-wired properly. This probably won't happen till it gets a bit warmer though...unless I start going through serious withdrawls...

Heres my CJ picture page which I have not updated in a long time....our CJ's look a lot alike.
