Hi all. Well, I can afford an inexpensive lift kit (2"-3")now,

and just started doing some research into the various brands out there. I've looked at Rough Country, Pro Comp, and a few others out there for my 90' XJ. After reviewing, I have two main concerns. One is, if I were to get a 3" lift, would I need to modify the drivelines or get the optinal longer brake lines? What else would I need to replace/modify in order to make that work? Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive (less then $400 preferably) brand? No vibrations and ease of installation are my top concerns, (and price of coarse.)

Well I wentr through the same ??? when I first bought my 96XJ. Here is what I came up with,
Rough Country- STAY AWAY!! It may be cheap but itll sag ALOt! Waste of your money of you want a good lift, ask Imfamousbutcher.

Pro Comp- They are ok, if you have a good dental plan at work, Most of the people I have talked to say the ride is so rough "it'll shake the fillings right out of your teeth!"

I would suggest the same that was suggested to me by just about everyone, save up your money and get the Rubicon express 3.5" lift. I have the super flex which is around 700 bucks with everything i wanted, there is a cheaper super ride...I think its like $499. It has everything you need for your lift and actually gives you 4.5" instead of 3.5. I haev the 3.5 plus a 2" BB, no vibes. I have 5degree shims in the back and a transfer case drop which helped my driveline angles pretty straight. Let me know if you need any other info!

I agree save your money and go with RE. I jumped the gun when I got my lift, I listened to everyone but still went cheap, I went with Rusty's 3" w/AAL and .75" shackels. I netted around 4" in back after a year of having it one and ONLY 1.5" of lift up front with Rusty's 3"coils, It was cheap at $200 and I didnt have any problems with shipping or servise but a lot, and I mean a lot of people do. BUT as I said it was cheap with only coils, AALs and the shacles. I wish I would have waited a few more months and went with REs 3.5"...andy

Take it from me. I have the Rough Country crap. Its been in my XJ for 3 months now and its almost back to the stock heigh. It sags really bad. Thats why its sooooo cheap. Save your money on that junk. If i was going to do it all over id get the RE 3.5 with Adjustable LCAs and a full leaf pack. I know quit a few guy running this without any driveline mods.

Then you have the really cheap but good lift. TJ stock springs & Dodge Dakota leaf packs. Im sure AJ or someone can enlighten you on this better then i can. Good Luck

yes stay far far away from the rough country aka crap country

my rear is probably back to stock if not less and my right front is saggin about an inch and a half, that probably wont happen to you unless you wheel hard but id still stay away from it. i only got it to satisfy me while preparing to go to about 10 inches of lift. so if you plan to stay at that hieght for ever or for a long time go with the rubicon express 3.5 inch lift, preferable with the new spring pack

Well, thanks everyone for your imput. It sounds like everyone thinks the Rough Country kit is total junk, I guess you get what you pay for. I'll probably go with the Rubicon Express. Are their any other brands that make a good kit for XJ's (Skyjacker or Rancho perhaps?)

if youre lookin for a mild lift arouind 400$ id go with the RE but if you got a bunch of money and wanna buy an awesome kit buy the skyjacker 8 inch rock ready kit hehehe

The R.E. 3.5 super ride kit runs $400 and comes with skocks and an extended rear brake line AAL front coils and lower control arms and front puck style bumpstop and sway bar disconnects

The RE 3.5 superflex runs $500 and comes with the same only it has super flex lower control arms

I would upgrade the lower control arms to adjustable
and upgrade the disconnects to JKS And if you really want to do it right I would upgrade to full leaf packs also

I can help you out on all of this
as I am authorized to sell them and can get you a better price on any combo you want

At 3.5-4" adjustable arms are not really required, in fact they aren't needed. Just my opinion. Since everyone is pretty much recommending RE I'll throw another option out there, just for the heck of it. Piece together your own lift. Goto the salvage yard and get a set of Dodge Dakota leaf packs in good shape and a set of coil springs from the front of a ZJ with a V8, around here would run about $100-125 for both of those. Then you'd need a 1.5" spacer for up front, $25 and that would net you around 3"-3.5" of lift height. Then you could add the RE Superride lower arms for about $140 or the Superflex arms for $175. Figure in shocks for around $125 and depending on your choice of lower arms you got a lift with full spring packs for a reasonable price. Just a thought.
