Well, my junkyard box swap is not going as easily as I had hoped. Found a good box, but I cannot locate the proper pressure hose with the right bends. I assumed the press. hose for a 79 CJ would be the same as an 82 except with flange type fittings vs. the o-ring style. The hose I got is completely different as far as the bends in the line are concerned and it just won't fit. I would like to find out what set-ups everyone else is running as far as the lines and the pump are concerned. Im swapping from an o-ring style box to an older flare fitting type box. The parts stores here are weak....everything needs to be special ordered so I have nothing to look at.

I don't know what you've got going on. I used an older(70's) 258 p/s pump and a older gm box on my 85 cj7. (both flare fittings)
All I did was ask for one for a 79 cj w/ a 258. Fit pretty good. I had to "adjust" one bend a little, but that was all. BTW I went to a NAPA not a discount store. You might want to make sure that they didn't give you one for the wrong eng. too.

I ran into a similar problem yesterday when I started my power steering/hydroboost install. As it turns out, the hydroboost I have is an o-ring type as is the box. However the pump was a flare type. I thought I was going to be buying custom hoses, but I happened to have a spare pump. While this pump would work with the bracket I had, it did use a o-ring hose. Well, you can take out the outlet port on the saginaw style pumps, SWWWEEET! I just swapped the outlet port and now everything is o-ring. I had to re-bend the hoses to work, just used a rubber mallet and a round piece of steel.

Also, FYI, if any one is looking for a hydroboost unit, my local junk yard has 4 right now, 1 with the spring accumulator.

I think my main problem is that nothing is original on the jeep and I keep having to think up creative ways to ask for parts at the store. The hose I asked for was for a 79 CJ w/304. The set-up I'm running is from an 82 w/258 and scrounged brackets to fit on a swapped 304. The only difference I could think of would be the length of the hose, but to my surprise the entire hose was bent differently. One or two re-bends I can handle, but this hose makes me wonder if it isn't a screw up of some kind. At any rate, I think I'll swap the output (thanks high hood) with an older pump and go from there. Once again, thanks for the input.

had the same problem. I had to cut a line( any line) in half, add a threaded fitting to each end and then I ran a 1/2 brake line in between that I could bend any way I wanted. After buying three different hose I just muther fied.
