OK, so I'm thinking "Outside the box" again and have a WAIT (Wild A$$ Idea Today).

I have transmission "A" and transmission "B" (most of you know where this is going already). Transmission A has a male output shaft, 21 spline. Transmission B has a male input shaft, 10 spline. I want to connect the two.

Here's the kicker. Transmission A also has a slip spline output (I have the slip shaft).

My thought is to have transmission B's input shaft cut down and resplined to match transmission A, so I can use a female collar similar to the SM465/NP205 setup. So where can I get this done? I have looked at all the machine shops up here, and they look at me like I have 2 heads, even "East Coast Performance", who stocks spools and other nice off-roading items on the shelf. Once I explained it to the guy for the 3rd time, he finally got it, and said he'd give Moser a call. Heck, I can do that, no need to pay the middle man. Anyone else I should give a shout?

v8jeep, did you ever find a place that does resplining in Maine?

Mangler, what was the shop down there that cut and resplined the Scout axle?

I think 3/4tonyj had a input shaft resplined, maybe at Moser. Mark you should be getting the money order for the flares any day now.

Hey Mark,
There are two places in MA you might try. Brookline Machine (this is where a lot of guys get their axle work done). I have never dealt with them.

And Mitchell Drivetrain Service. These guys are literally around the corner from me. They build all sorts of custom axles...have all the equiptment necessary to respline axles. So mabye they can help you. They rebuilt and balanced my driveshafts for me and did quality work. They are on RT 20 in Northborough, MA. Here is their phone number: 508-754-6502

you need a machine shop with a Good Mill, and an indexing fixture, they had one here I almost shortened and resplined my Fullsized Jeep 15 inch shaft for my T18, but it was going to be ALOT of work and experimenting from even the best machinest at this aero space machine shop.

its very probable though that any one who can shorten and respline an axle shaft could do the same with a tranny input shaft.

they will need a lathe also to re cut the pilot area.

good luck

I hear ya Mark.

You go to places around here and ask anything that's even a litle out of the ordinary, and the jaw drops and the deer in the headlight look happens.

It sucks hearing people online talk about "I went to this place down the street and they custom made me this...."

It sucks living in the boonies like we do.

But we can drive 15 minutes and wheel our little arses off :)

My father-in-law did find a place that can respline axles. It's actually north of me a little bit, can't remember the town or shop but I will check with him and post. Seemed to be resonably priced too.

two tranny's together huh? interesting!
