I have been trying to find a complete rear disc brake setup from a 93 to 98 Grand Cherokee. I need everything: splash sheild, caliper mounting bracket, caliper, rotor, hardware, bolts, springs, E-brake cables, etc. Basically, everything from the splash sheild out, plus the rear e-brake cables, for both sides. I'm not sure why, but the local junkyards all want me to buy the whole rear axle. They won't sell me just the brake parts. Now, if I had a vehicle with a bad rear axle, and I took it in to get it fixed, the shop would either use the brakes that are on the new good axle. or they would reuse the brakes off of my old bad axle. Either way, a set of good brakes is going in the dumpster! Does anybody know where I might find these parts without having to buy an axle I do not need? I live in northern Indiana, and am willing to pay shipping, if it isn't outrageous. Thanks in advance.

First Jeep didn't put Calipers (disc brakes) on the rear until I think '98, maybe '97. '93-'97-'98 had Drums on the rear. so check for you're application

As for the parts, NAPA, ADV.Auto, AutoZone.. all have them. I just checked on getting them for my Dad's Grand, so I know they have it. Hell, you can order is straight from their websites if those aren't near you.

The guys at NAPA said that e-brake cables, splash sheild, caliper brackets and a few other items are dealer or junkyard items. I just thought that if I could get everything in one place, I would. They guys at the junkyard said that (well, their computer said) 1993 to 1998 Grand Cherokees with disc brakes were all the same setup. I don't have a Grand Cherokee, so I took their word for it. If I could just get the parts NAPA doesn't have, I would be happy.

I'm guessing that you are building an axle or gathering the info for a friend then.

I've had a '93, my dad just picked up another '93 to build for off-road, and I have a '98. 98 has discs, and I think that was the first year. the '93 I had had drums, as well as a buddies '94. the Guy at NAPA has the wrong info. On top of that, you need to find out which axle, ZJ's came with D35's and D44's.

As for the Caliper bracket, I'd imagine that was welded on, so good luck getting one off a junkyard axle
the splash shield, might have to come from the stealership, E brake cable, I'd imagine you could tlk the guys at the junkyard into getting it. but one thing you may want to look at is the costs of getting all these parts seperate/new from a supplier over going ahead and buying a coplete axle from the junkyard. might come out to about the same price... maybe cheaper, especially when you factor in the arse raping the stealership will give you.

Caliper bracket bolts on. That's why I can't figure out why the junkyards will not just sell me the parts I need. The rest of the axle would still be fine to sell to someone who needs an axle. I was told that the brake parts are the same on both Dana 35 and Dana 44 axles. I am trying to convert my TJ drum to disc on the cheap. I have seen kits for $800 or so and thought I could do it cheaper. Maybe not.

Ah, I'm on to you now.... I was actually wondering about ZJ disc brakes and if they would swap easy like this too.... hhmmmm......

I might have to go home and pull a rear tire off the grand and take a look see.....

D35 and D44 brakes do use some of the same parts, but after helping John (WHTTRASH) swap from D35 to D44, some of it's not the same when it comes to drums. Don't know that I've ever seen or heard of a Disc brake D35. do you have a 44 or a 35?

I have a D44, but on a TJ, not a Grand. And, yes, I have read Stu's detailed instructions on his conversion. My approach will be very similar. But, only if I can find the parts. The caliper mounting brackets are the most important parts, as I can probably find everything else at parts stores and brake warehouses.
