I took my jeep on it's first ever run on sunday, and on the way back out we all ran into problems (long story) and mine was that I have a scout dana44 rear and I shimmed it up to get the right driveshaft angle. and my shims came out and made my driveshaft come apart we couldn't get it back together so I took it off and tried to limp out in fwd but I didn't get far, plus we were all tied hungry and cold, so, my rig and another rig were left there for the night and we went out. so I when home and got a long driveshaft and made some shims and went back in with tyhe other guys on tuesday to fix both rigs, I though all I had to do was put the shims in and the driveshaft in and be on my way. BUT.......

when I went to put the shims in the spring perches were broken off the axle! So to try and make this short the other rig pulled me out me in fwd and he got 4x4 working again.
by trhe time we got out I had a bent main spring on the drivers rear and the pinion end of the rear axle is somewheres in the floor( i didn't want to look!)and the perches anre broken off the tubes and probally somemore damage somewheres. but it's out of the woods.
so where do I go from here? fix what I got? spring over with new springs,( just have to weld the perches up top now!) build custom springs, or put in yj springs or what??

sorry again about length

I like to upgrade when something breaks. I would put YJ springs on it as a minimum. If you have the money and ambition, go SOA (I'm sure you know that it's more than just welding the perches on top of the axle).

ya, I was thinging of yj springs all around and putting my front dana44 in, then later flipping the springs over, or building a set of leafs out of cj/yj flexy yet stiff? right now it's at a friends house so I got to get it home

Don't feel too bad, Chad. Just chalk it up to learning how important the spring pad welds are. I had the same thing happen to me the first trip out with the new axle. The second time I paid more attention to the quality of the weld.
