I was thinking about getting some to help clearance issues. A friend of mine (white collar engineer I know everything type) warned me about excess stress being put on the bearings and balljoint assemblys. Is there really any worry about this? Has anyone had or heard of any bad experiences? Thanks.. Nate

From an engineering standpoint, they are not the best way to go. Yes, it causes faster wear of bearings and seals, also is a greater stress on the wheel lugs (have personaly seen the results of wheel stud failure NOT GOOD ), but on the flip side can say that properly machined to fit 1/2" spacer with new EXTENDED wheel studs torqued properly, can work succesfuly. Best route is to get the proper back spaced rims. In the end you get what you pay for, you spends your dough, use take your chances.

From what I know from the Bug- and Volvo scene: Yes, ther will be more stress. Amazons were known for breaking rearaxles just by using larger tires. I guess that won't happen at a Jeep, knowing how many guys ride 31's and 35's with wide tires and offset rims (eg. spacers). Everything wil however wear out faster, because of the increased stress.

religisouly retighten your spacers and youll be ok, spacers and less back spacing on a rim put the same amount of stress on wheel bearings, you just go about it a different way. you can get 4 black wagon rims with up to 2 1/2 inch back spacing from summit shipped to your door for right around 200$. and the cheapest wheel spacers ive seen cost 100$ a pair so unless you have fancy rims you wanna keep just get new rims. and spacers studs will break the same as your stock ones, the only reason they would break before your stock studs is becuase thier not kept tight. if you plan to keep em on a long time and can let yer rig sit for a few days thread lock them
