I have a 99 tracker, 1.6 16 valve, 2 wd, with a five speed. The rear diff, best I can tell, is 5.12. My Zuk is pretty much stock with 235 (29") tires. I want to increase the gearing and do it as low budget as possible. My question is this: Is the 5.12's to low for 29" tires? Do I need to find another set of 5.12's or get rid of these and find two sets of 4.62's? Also, will the tracker carrier fit into the Sammi housing or do I have to pull the r&p and keep the sammi diff?

Thanks

5.12 with 29" would be low. But you'll have to use the complete rear end. The rear gears in a tracker won't fit a zook rear. Only front gears from a tracker will work in it. You need 2 sets a front gears to set up a set in a zook. A couple sets a 4.30 grears would work well with 29" or just go with 4.16 t-case gears.

I ran 4.62s with 29 swampers and it wound up pretty high .With 5.12s it will go even harder . But if you dont mind losing a little top end you will gain a lot of ability off road with the lower gearing .

Aren't the track/kicks all IFS?

They are IFS front but the carrier will bolt into the sammi axle housing . The rear is a solid axle that I think is 5 inches wider than a sammi .

I realize that the front carrier will fit into the rear sammi housing, but are you telling me that the rear ring and pinnion gears out of the rear tracker will not fit the sammi at all?

this is getting confusing quick

ok the tracker rear you have wont do you much good the gears are too big to fit the samurai unless you go with a hybrid rearend that uses the kick/ tracker center with samurai outers then you still have a too far off ratio

you would need 2 sets of front track / kick gears for your samurai

my sugestion would be to get the 4 to 1 transfer case gears in the long run they will cost less

4 to 1 t case gears around $400

ring and pinion $150 each + $200-$300 setup charge + $44 install kit
=$544 to $644 unless you can setup ring and pinions yourself
