my 3/4 ton is an 8600GVWR Longbed reg cab

My 1/2 ton SW says 6100/2767 GVWR I guess that means 6100, but with nothing in it it weighs 2767lbs.

Good post, I have been troubled by the GVWR of my truck. I have a 98 K1500 ext cab short bed and the sticker reads ... no joke... 6200 lbs gvwr. Now the truck weighs around 5500lbs empty on the quarry scales. So I am estimating about 3 fat chicks can be loaded into the back of the truck before I get a ticket or 85 gallons of water. Now for another twist to the topic, I can go to the licensing place where I buy my tabs and get the rating increased to 10000 lbs gvwr for 20 bucks extra per year. My truck can't handle 10000 lbs safely but I would be legal. Now if I got in a wreck I think it would be my fault because I was overloaded and couldn't stop soon enough even though I am legal to be carrying that much weight. To increase the weight rating above the sticker I think I would also be required to put a sticker on the side of the truck stating the new weight rating. My owners manual states that I can tow 6500 lbs. The same truck but a 3/4 ton can only tow 6000 lbs. WTF? I must say that I've loaded more than 3000 lbs of rock into the rear of the truck and my weight was just over 8500 lbs and while the butt sagged, I had full control and the ride felt stable. Another note, 2000 lbs in the rear of my half ton just barely allows the snubbers to touch the suspension so I feel pretty good about upping my weight rating to 8000 lbs.

um...just a note in case yall are comparing trucks - 2wd are rated slightly higher than 4wd. like around 500lbs or so

highbeam,
Im not sure wether you relaize or not, but i have the light duty 3/4 with a GVW OF 7200 campared to the 1/2 tons 6200.

Ive hauled mabe 2000 before and my truck was realy light in the front, so I think I need some over loads to haul that kinda weight, It was sheet rock I was hauleing Im just guesing it was around 2000 pounds.
