I've had zero experience with these, but I thought I'd throw them out there anyway.

Rochester 2g/2gc
Motorcraft 2100/2150
Holley 2300 series (may be able to find one off a Ford)
Pre-computerized Carter BBD
GM TBI (a friend got one with just about everything he needed for $200 Canadian)

I still like the weber configuration. Brand new, no used crap to deal with, comes with all the correct adapters, tunes as a 1 barrel (only one mixture screw, not 2 screws to balance) comes with an air cleaner, linkages, etc., run you about $350 I guess. I really have been very happy with mine. Combined with the GM HEI distributor makes a nice 6 cyl. Jeep.

Good luck

I have to agree with Pete. Spend the little extra and get the Weber 32/36, NOT the bigger one. I've been running one on my CJ-7
for going on 2 years, works great, and I'm still using the stock ignition.

The Weber 32/36 is a great carb for the 258 CI motor. Pick up is better, idle is better and the engine runs quieter compared to the stock carb. Cost will run about $350 or so but it has all parts needed and can be installed in an afternoon. You may need to have the ignition computer bypassed if you're still using the stock distributor.
