what would happen if you put 31x10.50 tires on 15x10 wheels? the tires are only rated for 7-9 inch wide wheels. anyone know or tried this? good or bad

i'm thinking they'll be similar to what the lowrides put on their rides but on a slightly larger scale. wide rim/skinny tire syndrome is something to laugh at.

ask supergotgigabanned about it.

but the manufacturer has reasons for specifying rim widths, loads, speeds and what not. test-proven results being one of them but my opinion leans more towards liability/cya issues.

the tread width might be ok as it is (supposedly) 10.5 wide but i don't think the inner carcass (where the bead sits, duh) is engineered to flare out so much. but what do i know, i'm no discount tire know-it-all employee.

It'll look pretty homosexually-inclined along with having poor tire wear.

By doing this you'll be forcing the apex of curve of the sidewall near the rim. This not only pulls on the tire but also promotes bead loss.

It'll look worse than a 12.50 series tire on a 12" wide wheel. It's a bad idea.

I'd do it if I had a set of wheels and tires lying around. But I certainly wouldn't go buy a set of 31x10.50s to go on my 10" wide wheels.

mmm....now that i've thought about it. i once bought a stepside pickup that came with rally wheels and bfg comp t/a's. the comps were 275/60/r15's and later on i bought a set of 15x10 wheels. slapped the comps on and it was good to go. wasn't an eye-sore either! of course later i got 295/50 series and it was like riding on rails. but that's a different story...

my point is it's like putting a 265/70 tire on a 16x10 wheel. it'll work. really funny looking for a mud or all-terrain tire tho.
there's no 275/70 mud tire that i know of but it's 1/8" wider (give or take a few) than your 31x10.5.

don't wanna put 15x8's on? want the wider rim but don't have the right tire for it yet and the 31s you have are new?

dreamer, your a mind reader. i have new 31"s. i wanted the wide look with the 15x10's. i couldn't fit anything wider than a 10.50 on without rubbing with the 15x10's...up to a 33". if i had a 15x8 do you think i could manage the 33x12.50's?

and according to your bio (1994 chevy c1500 reg cab long box, 2wd 4.3L engine, 3" body lift, 4" spindle lift, 3" blocks in the rear to level it out. k&n drop in filter, flowmaster exhaust, tinted window, jvc cd player. 33x12.50x15 bfg mud's with 15x10 ultra wheels), you already have em.

becuz of the 3"bl you'll be ok with either one and 33's.
say, which window did you tint?

oops...forgot to change the bio after that fell through. mr discount moron lied to me about 2 things so i told him to shove it and pull em off. i tinted only the back window because it was too hot in the sun after i took the cap off. now you say i would be good with 33x15.5's on a 15x8 ?

thats what i meant....itchy trigger finger. i could set sail on 33x12.5's on a 15x8? also b/c of the wider tire (12.50)wouldn't it be close to a 10.50 on a 10" wide wheel look?

thats what i want to do but i just wanted to make sure that the reason the last 33x12.50 didnt fit is b/c it was on a 15x10 wheels.
