I have a September 69 Deluxe Hardtop. It has the 225 V6, TH400 and power brakes. My steering is manual. What type of steering set-up do I have, Ross or Saginaw. I think I remember looking at some Jeepster Commando's with manual steering with a steering box or something mounted on the firewall. Are there two different manual steering set-ups. I just have the steering box with pitman arm connected under the frame by the rock guard. Only thing on the firewall is a u-joint where the steering shaft comes through.

Sounds like you have a manual Saginaw setup. In this case, the shaft would be pretty long and have a U-joint near the opening in the firewall as you said. The shaft would connect to the steering box that is on the driver's side frame rail near the front bumper. One easy way to tell is to compare the two exhaust manifolds. If the two are nearly identical, you probably have Ross. If the driver's side is flat to clearance the shaft, then you most likely have Saginaw.

I just looked at the exhaust manifold and the motor mount. Both are different in appearance from the passenger side. How hard would it be to convert to p/s

Not hard at all. Get a power steering pump, mount, hoses, and box from a car with a Buick 231. Oldsmobiles are good donars too. And basically bolt it all in. You may have to have a hose made if the stock ones don't fit.
Try a "search" and don't be afraid to go to the "fix it tips" section also.
