I am still in the midle of a steering column conversion and am searching for a tilt column. I know other companies used the same column and am looking for specific years and makes to locate a good used column.

wagoneers should work.. and i have heard about some chevy ones being used also.. i will be looking for one here shortly.. friend has a jeep with a tilt in it.. will get with him and see what it is..

Wagoneer columns will not fit properly without shortening the box end of the column by 1".
The column from the dash bracket to the wheel should be the proper dimension. The only column that will fit properly is a jeep column or a custom column from a builder like Centech Wire.

I just replaced my 80 CJ column with a Wrangler column. What I was going for was the intermit wipers and high beam switch on the column. I went thru several different ideas before settling on the combination I have. I started with a Wrangler column I bought off the For Sale board. I thought it had the intermit wipers but after I recieved it I found this not to be true. I did some research in my shop manual and determined that the Cherokee and the Wrangler share the same switches and controlers. My next stop was the U-Pullit where I found a Cherokee column with intermit/ tilt for $35. A bargin and it had cruise control switch for a future gagit. I had hoped that the Cherokee column would fit in the CJ so I could use the tilt. The CJ column had tilt and I liked the feature, the Wrangler column did not. Once home I realized that it was not going to work. I removed the switch from the Cherokee column and customized it some so it would work in the Wrangler column. Just a little work but well worth the time. With this done I went to assemble the Wrangler column and installed in my Cj. I also came away with a Wrangler wiring harness for little money. This was great since I already have a 4.0 and the engine harness working in my Jeep. With the proper wiring diagrams it would not of been a hard job to rewire the column but I was fortunate to be able to skip that step. Everything works and my Jeep wiring and accessories are now current with todays vehicals. I even installed the Wrangler heater controls. If you swap in a Wrangler column you can get most of the connectors needed from most any GM car. I bought some for only several $ but did not need them in the end . Firebirds, Monza's ,Fiero's all uses simular connectors. I hope this helps. I do have two CJ tilt columns, one is standard (1980)and the other is for automatics(1986).

I am using one from a floor shift tilt wheel chev truck (73-87). Side by side, they have the same bolt mounting locations, lengths, starter switch (which plugs directly into my 85 CJ harness). I am installing it this weekend.
