hey everyone. I am new to jeeps and just got a 99 tj with a 3" lift and 33" tires. Underneath there is a square skid plate that hangs alot lower then the frame. Some lifted jeeps ive seen have this, and others dont. What is this? What can i do to get rid of this? Thanks

That is your factory skid plate. It is often referred to as a shovel because it has a tendency to collect rocks and mud. It also appears as if you've got a transfer case drop on your Jeep which helps with the lift angles. To get rid of it you can buy an aftermarket skid plate and bolt it up....but then you'd lose your tcase drop which might cause you to need a SYE (do a search) and a new rear driveshaft. Its all one big spending circle. Welcome to the club.
It is a spacer kit that lowers the transfer case to lessen the driveshaft angles. It is sometimes necessary with a short wheelbase Jeep with a lift kit.

hopefully when the weather gets better ill post more pics of the jeep!
its the dreded t-case drop...you can get a SYE and some adj. rear control arms or do a 1" motor mount lift to get rid of the t-case drop........if it was me (and i did this) i would just drop the $$$$ on a SYE and a good cv driveshaft.......Tom Woods and High Angle Driveline are some good places to start looking.....then some adj. control arms, tereflex, rubicon, rusty's off-road, ect.

happy hunting
