What R&P should I get for my 81 CJ-7 which currently sports 2.73. I'm running a stock 258 and 32" tires. I'm thinking about a 3.73 or 4.11, but I fear the 4.11 might be to high on the highway since I don't have overdrive. Anyone have any experience with either.

Larry, go to http://www.4lo.com/geartable.html It shows a pretty good gear/tire size chart to help you make a decision. It looks like 4.11's would be a good all around gear. Keep in mind this is for a tire that is 32" tall. NOT a tire that "says" 32 on the sidewall. They all vary (lie) a little.

my '74 sports a 3.73 r&p

WELL, whats left of 'em anyway..

with 31's (allegedly) it is fairly comfortable to my 232

although I'm more comfortable at slower speeds /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

I'm running 31" Riken Radials on the road and 33" Super Swampers off. I used to have 3.73's in my stock axles and went to 4.10's for my D44 swap (already had the axles), both retained the stock GM151 motor. The tranny was changed, but 4th gear is 4th gear. I'd go with the 4.10's and your setup, you won't lose too many RPM's but it'll travel easier on the road up and down hills.
