At first, I wanted to go to 33" tires, so I did. Then I wanted 35" tires, but didn't. Now I want to go to 38" tires. Got the Pro-Comp 4" lift on there now. What ya'll think about sprining over the 4" leaves? How about gears and the pinion angle issue? Is this just some big wet dream or could it be done at home assuming I have the tools? I met a guy yesterday with 39" tires with a Rancho 6" lift and a 3" body. He says he has the stock 3.73 gears. Poor guy. Everything he has is stock h claims. Anyways thanks for the help and opinions.

With enough money, anything is possible. SOA with 4" springs can and has been done many times, but driveline angles and steering setup become nightmares. Doing it yourself, unless you are an expert mechanic and fabricator is a huge wet dream. Plus, I wouldn't do it with the Pro Crap springs; they're way too harsh. Your best bet is customs from National Spring, but that's more $$$. I'd say, unless you're deadset on it, just don't do it. Keep the 4" lift, add an inch of body, and you should be able to clear 35"s fine; I did it before I went SOA. Good luck!

First off, I don't want to be a dick, but a little bit ago we talked about everyone needing to be more specifc with their posts. Well, read your post subject, and see if you can figure out the mistake/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

Anyways, abou stepping up to 38" tires. What kind of drivetrain you got? I assume you got the 4.2L and POS 5spd. Probably stock axles too, eh? If so, you may want to upgrade your axles and tranny.

As for going SOA, DO IT!!! I haven't even wheeled mine yet, and I love it!!!!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif But going SOA with 4" lift springs is puuuurrty extreme. Like east_beast said, your driveline angles and steering will give you headaches like no other. You'll pretty much definetly have to go with some sort of high steer setup. Even then you could still have some issues.

Your driveline angles will definetly be anything and everything other than horizontal. I don't know if it'd even be possible to get the rear from vibing with that much suspension lift. May want to look into making your wheelbase a little longer.

This is quite a bit to tackle by yourself. But if you got the tools and will, GO FOR IT!! I did most the SOA work myself on my YJ, along with all the high steer setup. Haven't gone about making my wheelbase any longer. But H8monday should have plenty of info no this since he just made his YJ 101". I believe it was somewhere around that number.

Good luck man!!

It is possible... I would maybe try it with 2.5 springs, maybe sell yours. That is the setup I have and I believe it is more commmon than doing 4 inch springs. I personally have pro-comp 2.5 inch springs setup SOA, I've heard with trimming and maybe a body lift (mild) you can do 38s with this setup. I would suggest putting new axles in, I sure as hell wish I had, but there are alot of things I would have done differently... As for pro-comp springs I could tell a huge difference in ride quality, the springs are much but riding and flexing now. Besides how hard is it to swap out springs, at least in theory a 2.5 is 2.5. Good luck on what ever you decide, I hope this isn't a daily driver 38s and a 4.2 could be brutal.
