I am a Geology student, and is going to get masters with a field area in NW Nevada.
As I am studying geology, i will need to go on fairly bad dirt roads, but also need to travel far at highway-speeds. I will also need to be able to haul quite a lot of gear, and carry rocks with me. It wont be any heavy amount though, at the most 3-400 lbs.
cars i have been looking at are the Nissan Xterra/frontier, Toyota fj crusier/tacoma, Subaru outback/baja/forester and any other general smaller pick up, or SUV.
I would like to have a car with AWD or continuos 4x4 (I.e. not part time), and would prefere and truck with IRS, as I dont want to worry about the diff.
I am also looking at installing an CB or HAM radio, as my field area will be in nowhere, so if anyone of you guys has experience with installing such, let me know.
btw my budget is roughly $15'000 so im looking at used cars.
