Gas stations are highway robbers. after the last price increase most never went down. I just got 92 octane for $1.62 at the local cheap Chevron. it gets as high as $1.89 for the same gas. I'm in northern Los Angeles county.

 

If you are going from Michigan to Alabama you obviously won't be going through Texas, but here is the situation here.

Regular unleaded is $1.45 average.
I have seen a lot of the time that when you get into a town, the prices are cheaper if you get off the highway and drive into the town a mile or so.
This is not always the case though.
Last week I was headed down to Austin on I-35 and at one truck stop the price was $1.27 for regular.

I guess it is just 'How lucky are you?'

I hope the prices don't go up any more, but I am sure they will.

Oh, by the way, If you can find a Sam's club with a gas station the prices are usually 5 to 10 cents cheaper.
The drawback about Sam's gas is that you have to be a member to get their gas.
They only have two grades though--regular and supreme which cuts out the mid-grade.
The high octane stuff is about 15 cents cheaper than the regular stations though.

Anyway, have a good trip and drive safely.

Just came back from seeing the folks in NJ and the cheapest that I paid was $1.37 (in SC), and the most was $1.49 (in PA). This was for regular. I took the truck, not my jeep.

As you leave the Midwest "wally the wallet" will wink at you. The Midwest has the new reformulated gas which costs more ($1.89 for 87 octos in WI). Maybe you could take down an 18-wheeler and buy some cheap gas and bring it up here and sell it for a profit. Get gas, get fumed, and burn some hydrocarbons.

A 1.40 a gallon WOW i am in the wrong state. Here in michigan its 1.98 for the cheap stuff and 2.24 for premium!! I heard we had a pipeline burst somewhere between here and ohio so thats why we went up a little the past couple days. Still way too much no matter what the excuse..

hey guys start sending me your cheap gas my way! here in OHIO its $1.87 for 87 octane, $1.97 for 89 octane, $2.11 for 92 octane, and $2.22 for 94 octane, anyone got any ideas how to make our jeeps run off cheap alchol or anything, my gosh, i wish water could run jeeps, oh well have a good one, don't drive to much or you'll go so poor you'll have to sell out precious jeeps, then what would we dream about all day??

You'll probably run East of us, but in STL it's $1.55-1.65(9) for the cheap stuff & $1.75-1.85(9) for Super. Illinois is higher by about a dime-$.15.

Went into Chicago a few days ago and saw regular gas for $2.18...

Thought in middle of modifications: "Maybe AMC did it right the first time...Naah."

 

In south alabama you are looking at 1.39 to 1.42 for 87 octane...

just got back from visiting family in shreveport, louisiana and it was a $1.32, not bad atall, here in mississippi, its closer to $1.50, still better tahn most of you guys,

When you buy gas try to get a little way away from the interstate gas prices at stations right by the interstate are always higher no matter what part of the country your in

 

I think taking a 18 wheeler down and bring some cheap gas back is a good idea. I'm headin toward foley alabama and I'll have to go thorough kentucky and tennesee. Anybody know what the prices are like there? I know one thing for sure, I won't be fueling up in michigan haha

to all you michiganders, i heard today they'll have the gas line fixed this week.

 

If you make it down to NW FL the prices are $1.51/gal. Better than Michigan. I guess it makes up for having to run the AC all the time (in the cherokee, the CJ's don't have AC, just the on board York for the power tools and tires....)

 

I am in the panhandle of Florida - we are often referred to as the southern LA (Lower Alabama). Regular 87 octane is $1.41. Someone posted earlier about Sam's Club. Down here all of the Wal-Marts have a Murphy USA gas station in front of them and if you use a Wal-Mart/Sam's gift card to pay at the pump you get an additional 3 cents off of each gallon (every little bit helps). The gift cards are free and you can add $$ to them at Sam's or Wal-Mart. I always keep my gas fund on this card. It is cheaper and more convenient.

Here in Kentucky the prices are running about $1.40 for regular and in Tn about $1.50 for the same.
