A little lesson I learned yesterday, or actually this morning.
I was welding up a new bumper and rear tire carrier yesterday after I had mowed my grass with my shirt off. I never put my shirt back on. I did a lot of welding(or in my case, burning stuff together) and I now have a bright red weld burn all over my chest and armpits and belly!
And yes to all of you I wore the regular safety equipment, welding helmet, gloves, shorts and flip-flops.

Always use sunscreen when welding naked.

Yah that can happen. I did a lot of welding one day wearing shorts and ended up with blisters on my inner legs. I will never do that again.

In addition to the above and in the way of safety proper eye protection is number one but if your welding indoors its also a good idea to have a fan going to blow the fumes away from you.

Another safety tip. When using the trusty 'ol torch wear eye protection. I rarely did until I pitted the lenses on my eye glasses. :)

ANother one to add is if you find yourself welding to the sheetmetal of your Jeep, ALWAYS stop welding and look at the metal after welding a little section, the paint will light on fire and you cannot see it under a welding hood. I was welding on my rocker protection and after finishing the whole deal I took the hood off and the whole side of my Jeep was on fire. Burned my custom roller brush paint..... /wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif

I always wear jeans, but usually welding takes place in a t-shirt and no gloves. If my arms don't have little burn marks on them, I have not been working on the Jeep latley. I seem to weld everything, I really don't like drilling holes, I just welded in 3 constant duty solinoids under the dash...

I used to wear jeans until they caught fire one day. /wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif That was interesting. /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

But I don't usually lace my boots. Go figure. The little BB's that fall down my ankles remind me that I'm alive. /wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif

Done the pants thing this last winter. I thought it was the old spacer heater getting a little warm until I lifted my hood and saw it was me getting a little warm. Hey I even caught my shop cat on fire one day, now that was a sight. Didn't know the cat was that dusty and I was using the cutting torch and I geuss a hot beed ignited him or something. He tends to stay away now.LOL

I guess you should always roll-on latex vs oil based paint as well!!! Mine has a real quality Krylon paint job.....

Well the base of my paint job is industrial latex paint of the color "saftey red". Then over the top of that is the $0.98 a can "fire red" rattle can paint from walmart. It looks pretty good, but the original latex applied with a roller brush gives it a unique texture. /wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif Whatever works, at least it is red. /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

Welding things up here in Canada has for years been somewhat cumbersome, until just recently. PARKAS have for years been considered an absolute necessity while welding, but with the impending shortage of Canada goose down for filling, we've finally gotten away from this apparell. (kinda like welding in a space suit). There have been a lot of advantages in shucking the ole' parka...we now find with the added mobility, it's MUCH easier to run STRAIGHT beads.....the down side is that it's very difficult to find a good SPF 90 in our drug stores up here./wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif I just couldn't resist this, Richard./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

How many Geese do you want! I've got those nasty things at my properties and they absolutely destroy my lawns! Charlotte, NC reportedly has more Canadian Geese per square acreage of lawn than anywhere else in the US! Too much danged grass I guess.
