I have been putting this little problem off for too long now, and i decided i have to do something about it. ok, the rear frame in my 89' yj is rusting, and last summer i was being pulled out of a rive that i shouldn't have been in anyways, and the framed cracked, it was about 1 1/2 in from the rear of the jeep, so it was far enough away from the spring perches so they to go go flying. i'm buying an aftermarket bumper and i am goin to have my friend, who owns a welding shop, put it on for me and reinforce my rear frame at the same time, around leaf spring perches, rear crossmember ect...any advice, and is this the right way to go? other than the rear of the vehical the frame is fine...

89' jeep wrangler yj, saraha, 4" skyjacker, HEI conversion.

Go to a body shop and ask about frame alloy, heat treating and welding restrictions. Some vehicles have frames that are not supposed to be welded, or must be welded with only certain techniques. I don't think your '89 is such a vehicle, but checking first is cheap.

I might have been born at night, but it wasn't LAST night.
