Please note that this question comes from someone that has little understanding of what it would take to re-jet and adjust a set of carbs for the 225 odd-fire....BUT...

Has anybody thought about what it might take to adapt a set of weber side-draught carbs (4 Brl total) to the trusty 225. I always had great luck with Webers, even with dual carbs on various VW projects. Once they were adjusted (sync-ed) I never had any problems. I think building the manifold and linkage would be the least of my problems. I think it would look pretty cool sitting in there with one carb to each side. And don't side draughts do pretty well with off angle running conditions?

Crazy thought? Perhaps.

Didn't the old VW motors run DOWNdraft carbs? Or are you talking Wabbits?

The only sidedraft stuff I've ever messed with were Delortos (small engine) and Solex (automotive)...The Delortos were finicky and the triple Solex's were an everloving PITA to get right (buds 240Z time racer). He eventually went to some hybrid FI until he started running the sedan classes.
