howdy,
i got the weber on now, and now i have spent the last week trying to get the thing to idle under 2,000. when i step on the gas pedal it runs the rpm way up faster than a mouse on fire. i need to know how to get this thing to idle down around 1,000 or so. what does everyone else's weber idle at? does anyone know how to idle this thing down? any ideas are welcome.

Thanks fer your time,

Well...

I'm assuming you've tried to back out the idle screw and that it isn't coming down, and that you're doing this when the engine is hot. Also, I know you can't check the timing now but was it OK before the install?
The only thing I can think of is that your throttle cable is set too tight now because it does need to be adjusted after the install. Mine idled too high at first as well, and I noticed that the cable was tight. The best thing to do is un-hook it totally, warm up the engine, and adjust the idle. Then hook it back up and tighten the nuts leaving a bit of slack so that it won't bind.
BTW, mine idles from 800-900 RPM's. One thing I noticed about the Weber is that the idle isn't very stable but as of late, it has held itself within that 100 RPM range.
Cheers!

Re: Well...

howdy,
i have backed out the idle screw all the way out, and the engine was at operateing temp. the timing was right on because i had just installed the new head with the cam. and drove it all weekend 4wheelen. my throttle cable is lose, you have to pul up on it about 2 centimeters befor it starts to pull on the arm.
i would love for it to idle at 800-900 rpm's. i loved it rite after i installed the cam because it counted out like a john deere.

A vacume leak will do this. Use carb cleaner all around the carb & adapters. If the rpm level changes, you've found the leak. Check the hoses for splits etc.. The choke might also not be kicking open. Check the choke linkage for binding. Check the high idle screw adjustment as well.
Mine idles at 800-900 rpm.....

You know mine is doing the same darn thing. My tach hasn't been workin but it seems to be idiling really high. I took my pvc valve out during the install and upon reinstallation I found I was having a hard time getting it screwed in all the way. I still have some threads showing on the valve is it supposed to screw all the in....I used the orange gasket sealer when I put all the bolts and gaskets in. So I don't think the vacuum leak could be coming from the base or the adpaptor plate. I can definately hear a large amount of air gettin sucked in somewhere though. I can even hear it inside the samurai. I thought maybe the Weber just sucked alot of air, but maybe it's a vacuum leak, do you all runnin webers hear more air than with the stock carb.

Linkage for a Weber is very important. The nut that holds the linkage on has a small thin shim which keeps it from turning loose. If you have tightened the linkage nut too tight, it will not allow it to move properly, and 90% of the time that means it gets stuck before it can bottom out against the idle screw. Check that. Also, it sounds like your choke configuration is a bit off too. It may be keeping the choke on, but the butterfly valves stay open making you think the choke is off. Check to make sure your choke linkage isnt the problem as well. The choke works on two principles to idle up your vehicle when its cold, one is that it 'chokes' the engine of air by way of closing the butterfly valves, the other is that it increases the idle thereby enriching the fuel mixture. So your idle problem could be there.

Just a couple ideas off the top of my noggin. :)

Oh also if you had a vacuum leak like that wouldn't you notice a loss of power?

well wouldn't decrease your power, and what about it do you'll notice a lot more air gettin sucked in?
