You do not have to do the by-pass when you install a Weber. Mine runs great with the computer controlled ignition. The only thing I notice is that the computer will retard the timing a little at idle which creates a noticable "step" in the power band at about 1000 rpm. That might be an issue with you if you do any low rpm crawling.
Do the bypass and see how you like it. It is easily reversible if you decide against it. BTW, I have done it numerous times, 3 of my Jeeps and many of my friends and have never had to reverse it. CTjeepnut
