I was wandering what kind of water proof cab covers are recomended and will they actually keep the water out? I have a 79 cj7 with the factory soft top so it still has the snaps. Its hard to tell by the pictures but are most of them attached to the rails like the supertop uses or do they have straps that actually hook under the jeep? Also who has the best prices? I have a carport but when it rains really hard it can blow in on it and I'm sure the electrical system will be grateful.

i kinda like a tarp. they are alot cheaper and with 4 or 5 bungie staps they make for a cheap alternative. i keep a tarp in my trail box for that purpose and if you need to make any trail repaires it sure is nice to lay one instead of the in mud or dirt.

Rain Gear...without a doubt the best cab cover I've seen or used. Savannah Jones sold them, but I understand Savannah Jones was bought out. The new company does still carry them. I hunted 'em down through the savannah jones number (800--603-4064) just a few months ago for a buddy. Rain Gear cab covers are about $100, they cover all the way down to the bottom of the door opening unlike others I've seen that only go down to where a half door goes. They strap down to anyplace on the frame/body/fender you want to strap 'em to. They have a rubberized coating on one side and fabric on the other. They also have a strap that runs from the roll bar to the footman loop on the windshield that prevents water from pooling on top of the jeep. Mine is probably three years old or more...I bought it off a buddy when he changed to a TJ style cage. Still works great in even the WORST rainstorms.

I have a Bestop trail cover. It covers to the top of the half doors and attaches with snaps (where the uppers snap to the half doors), under the soft top rail in three spots, elastic loops over the tail lights and spare, and two straps on each side that attach to the bottom.

If it gets rained on, water collects on the top and you get a major sag. I have to get in through the half door and push up on the sag to get the water off. Water always manages to run down the inside of the door when I do this, I think I need to work on technique. The top gets stretched pretty good, but so far it has always contracted back to original shape.

Mine started tearing where the straps are attached. I retuned it under warranty and now the replacement is tearing in another spot. From the response I got when I arranged the return, I got the impression tearing is a common problem.
