Ok, guys and gals, it's time to be reminded of the land use issues that are hovering around lately… Here is a good petition to sign if you haven't already signed it. If you have already signed it, be sure to pass it to every last OHV and pro-rights person that you know.
http://www.i-charity.net/bin/ptn/list/60

Here is another petition to sign and pass on to anyone you know:
http://www.monumentpetition.com/index.html

There is much more that you can do, and you can find this out by going to:
http://www.off-road.com/land

Thank you for the approximately 20-30 minutes the entire thing should take, and you should be sure to pass the links to anyone you know. I have no idea how many of you all have participated so far, but this is a very urgent thing for all of us to do, we can't just forget about land use issues now that the weather is getting warm and 'wheelin is possible…

Oh, one more thing you can do is go to:
http://www.anxietycenter.com/gore35.htm
and print out absolutely as many copies as you possibly can, and distribute them, with the web address to everyone you see during the day. It will take a major effort from every last OHV enthusiast to beat the greens this election. The future of our sport depends on it…

By the way, hey, how're you doin'? How's the 'wheelin? Any good stories?

One more thing before I go, I could use some suggestions on what I should write my Land Use column for July about... I have to have it turned in by the 10th, so I'm interested in whatever suggestion you have that's at least somewhat land use related as soon as possible to give the longest chance to research it if it's something that might interest others. Some possible type of useful things are including but not limited to: favorite (legal) wheelin' spot, area you might like to see a 'wheelin spot opened, or area that seems to be coming under attack by greens...

Again, thank you for your time.. /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

Re: Unimportant and ot

I was once an angry young ladd myself their friend, but have since seen the light....hahahahahha!
To be honest, I never think of checking out the land issues board, so I'm not only getting a customed to the Sand-man's posts, but also counting on them for up-dates etc. I don't have much time to go skipping around like the tree-humpers do, bitching and whining since I have a job etc? But I can at least find the time to sign a freaking petition. It's kind of like the TV there pal, you don't like what on, just turn the damn channel...! It's Not that tough?

Scott and Chris, thank you for sticking up for this post... /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

And for Pathaholic, if you ever plan to 'wheel anywhere in the United States, you had damn well better be interested in this post... Without the support of every off highway vehicle enthusiast, no matter what brand they own, we here in America will lose much of our ability to go off road. It takes about a second to skip it if your head is stuck up your @ss so far that you are unable to see the importance of this... Oh, Pathaholic, I looked at your profile and it doesn't say anything about where you live or any of that useful stuff. If you're going to bash a post like this, at least have a general location such as what country you're in filled out in your profile so that I can get an idea of whether your problem is just apathy or whether the problem you have with this post is because you're not in America and never plan to go here....

Re: On the same topic.....

Thank you for showing me that article, Chris... Very good concept... I think perhaps we should try to organize one of those type of rallies every place that the government is encroaching on the rights of OHV users.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif I like what is happening in Elko county Nevada now, the Jarbridge Shovel Brigade has received over 10,000 shovels in support of them re-opening one of their roads that is in a National Forest, but the road was there before it was a National Forest. The Government here is using a trout to hold the road hostage. The citizens around there and from all over the West are converging there on the 4th of July to use the donated shovels to re-open the road.
/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif The people in the Shovel Brigade have the spirit that all of us OHV users need to adopt... Nice organized highly publicized actions that show responsible use, and show that we are willing to stand up for what we believe in. If I was from anywhere near the West I'd probably be helping out the Shovel Brigade... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

But now I'm a bit farther off topic... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Re: Unimportant and ot

Don't even mention it, it's not just the post but the trails I'm sticking up for!
It's wierd man, but I swear these things are Ginx'd! The more I see these posts, the more trails I've noticed being shut down, both US and Canadian. I spend the better part of my wheeling time, down in the US and one of my favorite spots a.k.a. Walker Valley, Wash. is now coming face to face with the chopping-block, which really sucks because that's one of the few remaining area's where a guy / gal can go to pick-up some new dents and fill the drawers in doing so, if you smell what I'm cookin? Without having to travel 2500 miles that is!

Re: Unimportant and ot

I 4 wheel in MT/WY/ID. I have no problem with people trying to protect ORVing. What I do have a problem with is those ignorant and misleading statements that you and others post to get people riled up.

Misleading is the nicest way I would describe your junk on the FS roadless initiative. IT IN NO WAY EFFECTS ORV'ing. ORV regs are entirely different. It simply states that no NEW roads will be built in the remaining RARE2 areas. Big freaking deal. I don't know where you live, but I have over 100,000 MILES of open roads out my front door.

I ALSO have wide-open ORVing on state, FS, and BLM lands. ORVing means OFF-Roads.

Re: Unimportant and ot

Ah yes, no new roads, but also I believe that it also effects the maintaining of current roads. Plus I have also not heard of what the USFS has defined as a road. My definition of a road is probably totaly different than the USFS definition. So the problem comes when the USFS says they will close anything not defined as a road. and if they decide to define a road as something that is paved and or graded, that means a lot of us will no longer have anything to do unless you want to drive on graded dirt roads instead of trails. I know that when I first started wheeling, I got a topo map of where I was, and 90% of the roads that were marked 4WD or Jeep trail that were on the map had a barrier of some kind with a sign prohibiting ORV's. I hope that we don't have to tell you "I told you so" if this new initiative closes the trails that we enjoy.

Re: Unimportant and ot

Hmmmmm... Let's take a step back, simplify this and take another look at it...

What are those things you drive on to get to trails? Last I knew they were called "roads" I think. As I recall, the Forest Service can define "roads" how they want to. They can also define "roadless" as they want to. In one national forest in MO, according to one of the guys that attended a Roadless meeting there, they are designating areas with obvious roads running through them as "roadless". That is the very reason I am against the Roadless initiative. They are trying to declassify roads like crazy in some places just so they can cram those areas into the "roadless" initiative also.

That is an underhanded tactic that they are using.

But you're right, that's not important, we don't care that they're closing an area with roads and trails by declassifying them or completely denying they are there even though maps have them printed on there...

The roadless initiative works in conjunction with the other restrictive rules and laws that are also being rammed down the people's throats, and will serve in the future as tools to continue to chip away at our access to our favorite OHV destination...

I do not post ignorant or misleading statements. I talk with the truth. I am not in this just to get my kicks damn it, I'm here in an attempt to ensure that in the future when I settle down and have a family they can enjoy off roading in the very same areas that I get a chance to... Thinking anything other than the fact that these things are important is ignorant. Additions of creatures to the list of endangered species also drastically effects off road use, because it can close an area even to foot traffic. Whole parts of CA are being locked up from virtually all uses due to a toad. Other places will be next. If you still don't understand the importance of these things, I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you about it since you don't have the capacity to think about what the importance of it really is.

The Klinton administration has you brainwashed pretty good into trusting and agreeing with everything they do apparently... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif /wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif

Re: Unimportant and ot

Hahahahaha! Well that would be the differnce then, you have 100,000 miles of open roads, that's cool, but the topic here is trails!!!
