I just changed the oil in my truck. Ive been running chevreon oil, but I decided that Id try the durablend. anyone else running this oil?
Im hoping maybe my mpg will go up a little, and I guess thats about all I could gain from it.

Anyone running a full synthetick? thats seems to be a big deal with the deisols, so maybe it wouldnt hurt trying some in our little gaser V-8s.

In my opinion one should go with either full synthetic or full dinosaur juice (regular oil). All synthetic blends will get you is most of the leaks of a full synthetic and not the full benefit from it. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif At least that's how I see it...

I see your point about blending, but I dont get what you mean by getting most of the leaks of a full synthetick and not all the benifits?

A synthetic blend has a perhaps up to half it's volume occupied by the smaller synthetic molecules, and the rest is regular dinosaur oil based. The synthetic molecules are what leak out in most engines upon switching to synthetic.

I guess I just mean that since there's synthetic molecules in synthetic blended oil, you have just as much of a chance for it to find places to leak out of as full synthetic. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Sorry It's a friday and my brain shut down for the weekend about 6 hours ago.../wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

I'm running Royal Purple, I assume that's a full synthetic. I like it, my engine runs a little cooler.....I am not seeing any leaks though, I guess I should count my blessings ;)

My '89 just turned 200grand in milage so there is no way I'm tryin synthetic now! I'll leave that up to the guys in new trucks. I'll just stick to ol' dino juice.

The larger, non-uniform molecular structure of dinosaur juice actually helps to seal up potential leaky areas on older worn engines whereas the smaller, uniform molecular structure of synthetic leaks right through those areas. So unless you've got a newer engine with very tight seals it's better to run the dino juice. Uniform meaning no variance in molecular structure.

Synthetics do have the advantage of having the chemical properties that will keep seals lubricated and pliable instead of hard and dry. Did any of you ever notice the groove that is cut in the end of your crankshaft by the front timing cover seal? Supposedly Synthetics will keep seals from doing that.

Kid, I'm running Mobil 1 full synthetic. Have been for about 7,000 miles or so. Working great for me, but my truck only has 92,000 miles on it. I wouldn't do it with yours. Some good quality dino goo, Mobil is my favorite, a quality oil filter, I like Mobil 1 and AC Delco filters, and oil changes every 3,000 miles will do you fine.

belive it or not I Mr. Cheep run Full synthetic in the Bubba Tub. A mechanic friend of mine said not to put it in an older engine because the firsty thing it does is cleans the motor spotless, this could be a problem because it could clog oil passages. At any rate my truck used 3 quarts in about 500 miles then stopped, i changed the filter and went on with life. I have no real idea how many miles are on the old thing but I am guessing at least 100k since the prior owners crate motor install. I also run slick 50 in all my vehicles and have done so since I can remember. Also use the slick 50 trans treatment. Well thats enough of that.

If Slick 50 is one that contains teflon, throw it away, pretend it contains strains of the plague, the ebola virus and mad cow disease in the bottle... /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif Teflon in the engine oil will collect and fill the filter up (clog) and clog oil passages over time... If you buy your engine with teflon coated parts that's one thing but teflon will not bond to engine parts like the bottles claim... DuPont, the originator of teflon even says that it does not belong in a lubricant like that.

well looks like everyones against runny a fule sythentic, or blended in a older truck with way to many miles.

Minw bumped over 200k about 2 years ago and Ive been saying that its got over 200k, its probably close to 220-230k. I knew the previos owner and it has never been rebuilt or replaced, Its going on borrowed time. I guess Ill say that was a learning experince and get a case of dino juce and drain the blended.

thanks

Wait!!! Before everyone forgets this post maybe you guys could give me a little advice. ok, my truck has 100,8?? miles on it. I change it every 3k. It is an 86 with the original motor (305 /wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif). I just use regular Valvoline. I've wondered whether or not I could/should switch. My grandpa tells me he uses castrol syntec in his Dodge deisel. He also said if you switch to the synthetic from regular you should change it after the first 1k because it will clean all the crap out of your engine then every 3k. But anyway is my truck too old or does it have too much mileage to switch? I mean when I think about it regular old Valvoline is cheaper, but if the synthetic will help it last longer I could stand paying a little more now than a lot later/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif. What do you guys, and gals/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif, think?

I just got to thinkn that Ive been running the reg oil for 3 years now till yesterday anways, and I think the other guy ran it to, so why should I switch it now after its ran soooooo long on it(longer than most thought it could ever run).

So tomorrow Ill change the oil then pick up my 3/4 ton springs, a load of sheet rock made me decide I need beefer springs.

Sorry I strayed from the subject a tad

oh and thanks for steering me straight on the oil deal

I switched to the full synthetic when the truck was at about 108,000 miles, right after I got it. Change it every 5-6k miles. I also had just added some of that Zmax plus stuff to tranny/fueltank/engine but that was about 3 days before my wreck so i haven't exactly been able to notice any changes....hahaha. But I haven't had any problems with leaks or anything, my engine runs cooler, i'm still getting the original gas mileage, 13city 17/18 highway! I guess prob. because the old man I bought it from only drove it to work for 6 years, and it was all highway, never been offroad......until the first day I had a hold of it. hahaha

I run Amsoil in all of my vehichles. I will continue to do so forever, probably. It helps your engine run cooler and have less wear. I think the extra cost is worth it. I will be putting amsoil in my diffs when I get a chance. Then in the transmission when I have lots of extra money.
