I pulled the motor and the fork out and it is filled with gear oil. I can't see any spot for gear oil to flow from the housing to the shift fork and shift collar?????

I have a 1988 Wrangler. Is there supposed to be gear oil in the housing of the shift fork and the collar? Or is this lubricated by grease?
