I am trying to get my hub off my rear axle and the stupid thing just refuses to come off. I have one of those 5 ton pullers with the 3 arms, I am have wrenched it on there as hard as a can but it just doesnt seem like the hub is going to come off. Is there some type of trick to this or what? the puller itself has already drilled itself into my shaft. The hub has started to come out but it doesnt seem like I can get it all the way out...anyway any help and tips would be appreciated..I would like to get this thing off tommorow so I can bring the shaft back to portland with me.

You could try heating the hub.

You will probably need to put it in a press. I bet the keyway is jamming. Try tightening it back up then use the puller again. When i did my brother in laws we had to use a press. One other thing while you have them out just put one piece axles in. If you dont want to put the one piece axles in make sure you torque the hubs to 400 ft lbs.

Can someone please bring me a hammer my 33's just ate my fender again. Damn i need more lift.

After tightening the puller, are you hitting it with a heavy hammer (5 lbs or more)? That's how I got mine apart.

You need to really smack it with a sledge and then re-tighten the puller each couple of hits. Be careful where you are standing, when it comes off, it will fly. Good luck and hang in there.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

What, did you change your name?

Are you looking to save the shaft? Mine spun, but I couldn't remove it either, so I had to get ruthless. I put the Scrambler in 4Lo, left the front hubs unlocked, and put the front against a parking barrier. Then I let out the clutch, and when the Swampers stopped hopping, the rear axle blew hard. I left the nut a little loose so the tire wouldn't fall off, and it worked like a charm. Be careful with putting it back on, at 400 ft-lbs it's easy to jerk the breaker bar and snap the threads off the axle or strip the nut. Smooth easy pressure is the key, with some Loctite of course.

It's been awhile since i worked on a d20, but i thought when i had the same problem i took the brake backing plate bolts off. Then pulled the shaft and hub out together. You can then have it pressed if you want them seperated.
