I packaged an oddly wearing camshaft and lifter set in a TRIANGLE shaped anti-crush box, Rapped the cam in five wraps of expanded foam sheet packing material, left a foot extra on both ends and bent it over for extra protection and taped it in the middle.
I taped the lifters shut in an original box, first with box tape, then with duct tape, and then taped them to the end of the wrapped cam shaft.

It took seven business days to get from southern Indiana to Memphis TN.
(I could have drove it to George Lunati's place in five hours, and went to the blues clubs that night, and had barbecue!)
The Cam Shaft arrived broken it two pieces, the some of the lifters were missing, and the box was taped up with UPS box tape....

They are saying it was delivered in good shape, and on time.
I have the tracking stuff off of their web site, and it was lost in Oak something or another TN for four days!
Guess we are going to small claims court again. Good thing I insured it for twice it's normal value....

I feel your pain - I bought a Warn 8274 winch from a guy a few years ago for $200, and they LOST IT!!! What was delivered to my house was a board with my address on it and four holes in it where the winch WAS mounted... Tell me that wasn't some kind of inside job! (I did collect $500 in insurance though, should have put the full replacement cost on...)

Hey - off the subject, but when you said you needed the new F-350 type cap and base in that V* dist post, what do you mena by the base? Is it a bakelite type piece that allows that cap to be installed on the stock housing?

On my deal:

they are returning the tranny to me, without the adapter, off of the pallet so
I know its hashed already being thrown around on its pan...

they are trying to deny the claim " Yes it got damaged in our possesion, but htat because it wasnt packaged properly"

what I have yet to tell them is that 2 weeks earlier I sent an Identical tranny, in identical packing to a more distant destination using UPS and it arriveed just fine...

If you file in small claims, they usually cough up in about a week after they get served...

Call your local court house, and they will tell you how to file in small claims, and what your states limit is ECT.
You don't have many people owe you money, do you?
If you are in buisness with the general public, you would have done this before...

No, very few poeple owe me money, I try to be really selective when it comes to how far out im hanging, even though ive taken the occasional screw, not often though..

when it comes to my side business ( privacy fences and decks) its cash up front cash every week, then cash when its finished, and ive never had a problem with payment, then again, I build things that make people happy..

The once or tiwce Ive been stiffed was by dishonest people triyng to get over on me, sometimes they do, I give anybody the benifit of the dout..

thanks for the info, Ill call tomorow and see what it requires..

I know what you mean by beening stiffed. About six months ago I was stiffed on this bbs, it wasn't much only a freight charge but the guy knew he did it and has not been around. Or he aleast change his handle. That why profiles are important. I do have alot of parts behind the house but cannot offer for this reason. That why when I deal I do everything I can to use postal checks/money order. I really hate people at times.

I know what you mean. I got a SM420 from AZ that was packaged really well. When I got it, the shifter handle was out of the "box" (I use this term LIGHTLY...it was in the shape of a football). Luckily, it didn't get busted up and there wasn't any parts missing. Also, they missed the pickup day and guaranteed three day delivery. It ended up in my possession in four days.

I know what you guys mean, I stated a post not long agao about a winch they broke. My friend runs a specialty automotive store and used to put his full name, and then followed by performance automotive parts. His success rates were less than 75% on getting there without the box opened. Now he just puts his company name without any description. There are a lot- I MEAN A LOT- of things that magically disappear via UPS. I have just learned to over insure, and they don't like to go to court.....the small claims is a great idea. When you send something, put a VERY vague description, so the UPS guys don't jump on it. Anything that depicts anything of value has as much chance as one of those little sea turtles getting to the ocean.
