I am just editing my post,/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif i found 3 spicer PTO's (to are broke) anyway, i still have a question about shimming them (gear backlash) they all seem to need about a 3/16 inch shim, does this mean i have the wrong PTO's or do you need shims like this sometimes? I did find this cool/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif 45 degree adaptor http://www.chelseapower.com/Prod/PTO/pto.htm , anyway, anyone know if they make/sell "peels to thickness" shims and/or spacers? where?

I got this Tulsa part/model# 40NC7L PTO, it has 2xforward/neutral/reverse positions and seems like it will bolt up to my SM420 (IF i put about a 3/36" spacer under the mounting pad), it will be driven by the cluster gear, is it OK to spin in neutral all the time? how about this spacer, bad idea? does anyone know where i can get more information/specifications on the PTO?

thanks,

Re: Tulso PTO ?

I would talk to Boyce equipment. I know they sell a lot of PTO winches and I think most of them are Tulsas. If they can't help you talk to your local heavy equipment dealer. My nieghbors Cat has a 40,000 lb. Tulsa and I am sure the guys that sell stuff like that could help you out.

Isn't that the old Ramsey line? I know they are in Tulsa.

Re: Tulso PTO ?

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Nope, the Tulsa winch company dates back to the ol' bidness' infancy in Oaklahoma. They were a major supplier to the military during WWII. I have had PTO's with forward-reverse-neutral, but I thought they didn't run all the time. I could be wrong, but there was just a slider to hit the cluster, and the reverse had an in-case idler to swap directions. They were, however, just single speeders in each direction. It would have been nice to have some gear-up because we used to rev the gazinyas out of the truck engines to get line speed./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Hey....don't look at me...I DID NOT blow the Ford engine...that was Bobby thet done that./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif I have never seen a peeler shim setup for the six-bolt door opening, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. LOTS of the PTOs I have installed had spacers (sometimes steel, sometimes aluminum) between the PTO and the transmission case. That 45 degree adapter is rare, but necessary for some applications, especially FWD./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
