In a way it does matter. If you are tracking your mileage for reimbursement is one example. 35 cents a mile can add up quick. I may have lost $600 to $1000 by not adjusting my mileage for the incorrect readings. Enough to buy me a lift kit.

 

from stock 27" wheels to 31"s, I lost 9.3% mileage and speed. So, when my speedo reads 50, I'm doing 55... 275miles on a 19 gal tank = 302 miles

Who pays 35cents a mile? The ol' IRS lowered the travel rate back down to 31.5... I won't tell your work for a small fee... say an ARB air locker, with compressor...

I'm running 31's and I'm about 5mph less than actual; tested by driving side by side with my wife and telling her to give me the 5 - 5 sign when we get there. Due to recent technical advances we now calibrate via cell phone. It's been rare that I've ever owned any vehicle with true readings. So on my Jeep when it calculates to 12.8 mpg it's really about 14.08
