I am trying to find out when AMC went from the aluminum grill to the plastic gril, my 76 J-20 and 78 J-10 both have the aluminum so know it was after that????

79 was the first year of square headlights and the large plastic grill.

My 82 has an aluminum grill. But I know some earlier ones had the all plastic grills.
So they must have used both for a while.

My 81 Cherokee has an aluminum grill but I think someone changed it. Riverbeast also said they went to square headlights in 79. If you look at the prices of the plastic grills it makes more sense to replace a broken one with an aluminum one from the junk yard.

-- i have the aluminums too. maybe they go on the mix of having both at the same time. bot the aluminum truck grills are more efficient when it comes to stability i think.
